[HI DICK HEY. Guess who’s looking for you. It’s this nerdbird, where are you. Gym? Kitchen? Observation room? It’s not a huge ship, Tim will look everywhere if necessary.]
[ Reading books he got from the ice planet, Dick is nerding out in his room. Mostly over the pictures ... he can't read whatever-this-is but the pages are hand-painted and he suspects there is a Robin Hood character in the story.
When he hears it's Tim outside, he calls him in from where he is stretched out on his bed, ankles crossed and mask off. ]
[Well, it's not a great way to treat your gear, but Dick's a grown-ass adult, Tim's not gonna hassle him about it. Dick's been at this game a lot longer than Tim, after all, he pretty well knows what he's doing. Tim sidesteps the suit and perches on the edge of the bed, leg folded underneath him.]
I just wanted to say thanks - for listening to me. [Tim struggles with that a lot, feeling like he's been heard and understood.] About Jason.
[ That's not a topic he thought he'd be hearing about any time soon. His surprise comes in a raised brow but he otherwise remains even-toned, wondering where this is going. ]
It's no problem, Tim, you know I'm here if you need to talk. Can I help out with anything else?
No, [he shakes his head,] you helped a lot - that’s what I wanted to tell you. [Absently, he fiddles with the hem of his shorts.] I took your advice, gave him some space. He came to me, and - we talked. He’s still afraid he’s going to hurt me, but I think we’re going to try anyway. Being together, I mean. Whatever that means.
I don’t know. We haven’t talked about it yet. That’s - really official-sounding, and I don’t know if that’s what he wants. I think ... right now, he’s just - you know, Jason.
[Tim shrugs; it’s a vague answer, but he hasn’t pushed to put parameters in place for this relationship.]
I mean, we’re not exactly posting it all over social media. But I wanted you to know. It seemed important.
I wouldn’t bet on it. One of his arguments against this was something to the effect that he couldn’t be anyone different, and I said I wasn’t asking him to change who he is, so ... [he shrugs. Jason’s gonna Jason.
The first part of what Dick says is a little concerning, though. Tim frowns lightly.]
You think this is weird? Because it’s me and him, specifically, or ... ? [He waves a hand, inviting Dick to explain.] Like ... two guys in general?
[ #JasonGonnaJason is the most legit hashtag. Dick looks surprised, then chagrined as he sits forward to lay a hand on Tim's shoulder, huffing through a smile. ]
I've always thought of you guys as brothers, that's all I meant. I always will, in a way, which sounds a little weird out loud now that it's not in my head and you're both dating ... I don't have a problem with any part of it, that's what I mean.
[Brothers isn’t wrong, technically ... but with Jason it’s different. Complicated. Tim shrugs.]
He wasn’t really around like you and Damian were. I didn’t get to know him the same way I did with both of you.
[He’s had a little more of a chance for that since being here on the ship together, though. Still, it’s a relief to hear that Dick’s OK about this. Not that Tim needs Dick’s approval, but having it - or at least the reassurance that he isn’t completely weirded out about this - is nice. Tim smiles, ducks his head.]
I don’t know if we’re dating ... I mean, how do you date someone in space?
[ He would say "it's like family marrying family" but that sounds even odder so he keeps it to himself. Maybe he and Alfred are just old fashioned birds who consider everyone under Bruce's wing to be a sibling. ]
How do you date anywhere? You go out together, do new things, get to know each other ... What's that new saying? You can 'Netflix and Chill', right?
[ Dick laughs softly, patting Tim on the arm as he scoots over to keep him company on the edge of the bed. ]
It's a little different when you're dating, you should be able to tease the other person without worrying about them, uh, jumping you in a non-fun way. [ Because that's the most tactful way to discuss Jason's habit of resorting to fisticuffs. Nudging Tim's arm, Dick tries to lift his spirits from worrying too much. ] And, you know, he loves attention.
[ Melodrama queen extraordinaire Jason "BUT DID YOU DIE" Todd. ]
He doesn't give the time of day to many, Tim. I'd say you're lucky to have found each other in that way, but I'll be generous instead and put it as a testament to Jason's suddenly improved taste. Or eyesight, since you've been right in front of him all this time.
He was right in front of me this whole time, too. [Tim smiles, halfway sheepish.] There were just ... circumstances, I guess.
[Things like Tim dating Steph, or Jason spending so much of the time absent or else trying to make Tim bleed. Even when they did work together, Tim often felt like a single wrong word would set Jason off on a rampage again, so he kept his distance. Didn't pursue anything more than he did. Didn't acknowledge his feelings about Jason, even to himself.
And truth be told, Tim still feels like he's one misstep away from making Jason vanish. It seemed like that was where they were headed for a while, after the shared dreams, after the confrontation Tim forced. Everything's different with Jason, but it always has been. Tim shrugs.]

I was starting to wonder if that mask was glued on permanently.

[ A little chagrined as he admits that, he sits up cross-legged to make room for Tim to sit. Excuse the Nightwing suit strewn across the floor. ]
What's going on, Tim? It's not often I get house-calls from someone who doesn't want to steal my stuff.
[ JASON. ]

[ Chuckling, Dick nudges Tim's nearest leg with a toe. ]
I'm glad you told me. Does this mean he's going to behave if you ask him? Ah, all my dreams are coming true ... !

I, um. I don’t think Jason would be into that, actually. And - well, we don’t get Netflix in space anyway.
[Is he a little redder in the face than he was a moment ago? Prrrrobably.]
But yeah, the rest of that, it makes sense. Guess I’ll have to hope we end up on a nicer planet next.

What are the odds of that, though? I say get out there and put yourself in Jason's way if you want to spend time together. That's what I'd do.

I never really had to work very hard to get in Jason's way before.

I guess we'll figure it all out as we go.
